The higher levels of running involve more muscles and more risk of injury, but the fact remains that they are not extreme sports. Running helps to increase your metabolism and burn calories while decreasing your appetite. This makes it an ideal exercise for losing weight.

Many sports professionals are into working with runners who are trying to stay fit and active. Some coaches encourage their runners to train by running several times per week to keep the body in shape and help reduce the risk of injury. High-impact sports involve striking the ground hard. This type of game is common in many games, and the players usually do not wear protective equipment. While they can be very demanding physically, these types of sports can be extremely beneficial in maintaining cardiovascular health.

The incidence of concussions is higher among young people who play high-impact sports, such as soccer. Also, because the hands are used for passing, punching, and kicking, many players are always putting their hands on the face, neck, and head. Not wearing protective equipment can result in cuts, bruises, and breakage of bones.

Moderate-impact sports involve minimal impact but require more muscular control. The endurance and speed of these sports depend significantly on the skill level of the player. These sports are similar to walking in that they involve quick, short bursts of activity that do not allow a person to rest. When you play these sports, you can run for a half-hour without stopping.
